The story behind it:
The ancient Khmer techniques of silk weaving go back to the 13th century and were traditionally practiced by women in rural areas. The core of the old craftsmanship is the “Ikat” technique, also used to produce the famous “Hol Lboeuk” fabric.
The semi-public company “Artisan d’Angkor” is committed to reviving these and other old Khmer handicraft techniques such as silk painting, stone and wood carving (as can be admired at many temples and pagodas) and silver plating. In addition, young people in rural areas are to be offered training and work opportunities.
